Vendor Membership Fees and Refund Policy

The cost to become a Blue Chico Marketplace vendor is $4.99 per month.

The monthly vendor fee provides access to the marketplace and the opportunity to list and sell approved products. Payment of the monthly membership fee does not guarantee sales, customer inquiries, website traffic levels, revenue, or profitability.

Vendor membership fees are nonrefundable. No refunds, credits, prorated reimbursements, or fee reversals will be provided because a vendor did not receive sales, received fewer sales than expected, did not use the membership, failed to upload products, or did not actively manage the vendor account.

The monthly fee pays for access to the marketplace and its vendor features, not for guaranteed results.

Active Listing Allowance

Each active vendor membership permits the vendor to maintain up to 25 active product listings at one time.

Vendors may add, remove, replace, deactivate, reactivate, or revise their listings at their discretion, provided that they do not exceed 25 active listings and that all listings continue to comply with Blue Chico’s policies.

Replacing one product with another does not increase the vendor’s active-listing allowance. A vendor may change the products being offered as often as reasonably necessary, but new listings and material listing changes may require approval before becoming publicly available.

Blue Chico reserves the right to reject, suspend, deactivate, or remove any listing that violates marketplace policies, applicable laws, payment-processor requirements, shipping requirements, or marketplace quality and safety standards.

Marketing and Advertising Responsibilities

Blue Chico will host approved products on the Blue Chico Vendor Marketplace and direct traffic to marketplace vendor pages on a regular basis.

Because marketplace traffic is shared among all participating vendors, Blue Chico does not guarantee that any specific product, listing, vendor page, or vendor account will receive a particular amount of traffic, exposure, engagement, or sales.

Blue Chico’s standard marketplace promotion is limited to hosting approved listings and directing general traffic throughout the shared Vendor Marketplace.

Any additional marketing or advertising for an individual vendor’s products is solely the responsibility of that vendor. Vendors are encouraged to promote their products through their own websites, social media accounts, email lists, advertisements, customer communities, and other lawful marketing channels.

Unless Blue Chico agrees otherwise in writing, the following remain the vendor’s responsibility:

  • Paid advertising
  • Social media promotion
  • Influencer marketing
  • Email marketing
  • Product photography
  • Promotional videos
  • Search-engine optimization
  • Customer acquisition campaigns
  • Discount or coupon promotions
  • Brand awareness and audience building

Blue Chico does not guarantee sales or business growth through participation in the Vendor Marketplace.

Membership Cancellation

Vendors may cancel their Blue Chico Vendor Membership at any time.

All cancellation requests and account-management responsibilities belong to the vendor. Vendors are responsible for canceling their membership before the next billing date to avoid future charges.

Canceling a membership does not automatically provide a refund for the current billing period. Previously paid membership fees remain nonrefundable.

Vendors should also complete or resolve any outstanding orders, customer-service requests, refunds, returns, disputes, chargebacks, or other obligations before closing their vendor account.

Failure to resolve customer complaints, unissued refunds or problems between the vendor and customer will prompt a small claims case between the vendor and customer where Blue Chico serves as a witness to dishonest business dealings. Blue Chico will not be held responsible and will not become the scapegoat for dishonest vendors.

Our team is happy to provide assistance when needed. Vendors may contact us at vendor@bluechico.com with questions regarding marketplace access, vendor-account concerns, listing requirements, or unresolved vendor issues.

We want our vendors to succeed and are eager to provide reasonable marketplace support.

Blue Chico Free-Shipping Requirement

Blue Chico maintains a free-shipping promise for customers. Therefore, every product offered through the Blue Chico Vendor Marketplace must be advertised and sold with free standard shipping.

Vendors are responsible for calculating their expected shipping, packaging, handling, insurance, tracking, and fulfillment expenses and factoring those costs into the advertised product price.

Vendors may not add a separate standard shipping charge at checkout or require the customer to pay additional standard shipping fees after the purchase has been completed.

Every approved vendor listing must clearly state that standard shipping is free.

Vendors are responsible for ensuring that the product price is sufficient to cover:

  • Product costs
  • Packaging materials
  • Handling expenses
  • Standard shipping charges
  • Tracking costs
  • Shipping insurance, when applicable
  • Marketplace commissions
  • Payment-processing expenses
  • Applicable taxes and business expenses

Blue Chico is not responsible for reimbursing vendors when shipping costs exceed the amount the vendor included in the product price.

Expedited, international, oversized, remote-area, or specialty shipping options may not be charged separately unless Blue Chico has expressly approved the arrangement in writing and the additional charge is clearly disclosed to the customer before purchase.

Vendors may not advertise a product as having free shipping while increasing the customer’s total after checkout through undisclosed shipping, handling, processing, or delivery charges.

Failure to comply with the Blue Chico free-shipping requirement may result in listing rejection, removal, account suspension, customer refunds, or termination of the vendor membership.

Vendor Shipping Responsibilities

Each vendor is solely responsible for shipping and fulfilling the products sold through that vendor’s listings.

Vendor responsibilities include:

  • Factoring all standard shipping costs into the product’s advertised price
  • Advertising free standard shipping on every marketplace listing
  • Maintaining accurate product inventory
  • Processing orders promptly
  • Packaging products safely
  • Purchasing and providing appropriate shipping
  • Providing valid tracking information when available
  • Meeting all advertised processing and delivery timelines
  • Communicating shipping delays to customers
  • Correcting delivery-address errors when possible
  • Handling lost, delayed, damaged, or misdelivered shipments
  • Complying with carrier and shipping regulations
  • Following all applicable domestic and international shipping laws

Blue Chico does not manufacture, package, store, inspect, ship, or directly fulfill independently sold vendor products unless a separate written agreement specifically states otherwise.

Vendors may not make misleading statements suggesting that Blue Chico personally ships, fulfills, manufactures, guarantees, or inspects their independently sold products.

Vendor Customer-Service Responsibilities

Each vendor is responsible for providing customer service for the products sold through that vendor’s listings.

This includes responsibility for:

  • Answering product questions
  • Responding to customer messages
  • Providing order updates
  • Addressing shipping concerns
  • Managing cancellations when permitted
  • Handling returns and exchanges
  • Issuing approved refunds
  • Resolving damaged-item claims
  • Responding to missing-item complaints
  • Managing product-quality concerns
  • Complying with the vendor’s posted return and refund policies

Vendors must provide accurate customer-service contact information and respond to customers within a reasonable period.

Blue Chico may assist with investigating unresolved marketplace disputes, but Blue Chico does not replace the vendor as the primary customer-service contact for independently sold vendor products.

Required Vendor Listing Disclaimer

Every vendor product listing must include the following disclaimer before the listing can be approved:

Required Disclaimer

“This item is sold by an independent marketplace vendor and is not sold, manufactured, shipped, fulfilled, endorsed, or otherwise affiliated with Blue Chico, except that the product is hosted on the Blue Chico Vendor Marketplace.

All product questions, order concerns, shipping issues, returns, exchanges, refunds, damaged-item claims, and other customer-service matters related to this item must first be directed to the vendor.

Blue Chico is not responsible or liable for the condition, quality, safety, fulfillment, shipping, return, replacement, or refund of products sold by independent vendors.

Unresolved vendor concerns may be reported to vendor@bluechico.com for review and investigation.”

The disclaimer must be displayed clearly within the product description or another location approved by Blue Chico.

Vendor listings that omit, alter, conceal, minimize, or misrepresent the required disclaimer may be rejected, suspended, or removed.

Prohibited Products, Services, and Activities

To maintain a safe, trustworthy, and family-friendly marketplace, vendors may not advertise, list, sell, facilitate, promote, or arrange transactions involving the following:

Enforcement and Reporting

Blue Chico reserves the right to review, approve, reject, suspend, remove, or permanently delete any vendor account or listing that violates these rules, creates a safety concern, presents a legal or financial risk, or conflicts with the standards of the marketplace.

Violations may result in:

  • Immediate removal of a listing
  • Suspension or permanent termination of the vendor account
  • Cancellation or refunding of affected orders
  • Withholding of funds when permitted by the Vendor Agreement or required by law
  • Reporting to payment processors, financial institutions, shipping carriers, intellectual-property owners, or affected parties
  • Preservation and disclosure of relevant account information to law-enforcement agencies when legally required or necessary to report suspected criminal activity

Listings involving suspected human trafficking, child exploitation, credible threats, fraud, controlled substances, or other serious criminal conduct may be immediately reported to the appropriate local, state, federal, or international authorities. This may include the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, or other appropriate agencies.

Vendors are responsible for ensuring that every product and service they offer is lawful, authentic, accurately described, safe, properly fulfilled, and permitted under Blue Chico policies.

Approval of a vendor account or product listing does not transfer the vendor’s legal, financial, fulfillment, shipping, customer-service, refund, or product-liability responsibilities to Blue Chico.

Blue Chico may update these standards at any time to reflect changes in laws, regulations, payment-processing requirements, shipping restrictions, safety standards, or marketplace operations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Membership

What is the monthly fee and why is there one?

One thing many small businesses may not realize is how complex it can be to operate an online marketplace. Supporting multiple vendors requires reliable technology, ongoing maintenance, customer support, secure payment processing, and significant hosting resources.

Your membership fee helps cover a small portion of these operating costs, allowing us to continue offering vendors an affordable place to showcase and sell their products.

Large marketplaces such as Amazon use a similar model, but they often charge higher commission rates and have stricter product approval requirements. Anyone who has tried to sell on Amazon understands how difficult it can be for a small business to compete and gain visibility.

Blue Chico is here to help small businesses succeed. By offering a low monthly membership fee and a very low commission rate, we aim to provide vendors with a more accessible and supportive way to grow their businesses online.

What percentage does Blue Chico take?

We take 3% of each sale. We have one of the lowest vendor marketplaces online in terms of commission. We do not want to gauge your profits like other online marketplaces

What if I don't make any sales?

We hope you do! But if you don't we are not liable for the way the internet works. Online sales are hard. We encourage you to check our Marketing Toolkit here.

If I don't make any sales can I have a refund on my membership?

No, we're sorry. The membership is permission to use the marketplace and not a guaranteed sale contract.

What if I need to cancel?

That's fine! We get the need to change. Simply cancel your recurring membership within your subscription page. If you need help reach out to vender@bluechico.com

Selling

Can I sell used items?

YES! We are an eco-friendly store and we love that idea. Just be honest and let people know it is used.

Can I hold auctions?

Sure, as long as the item is not on the prohibited list.

What if I am an animal shelter, can I list dogs /cats?

Live animal sales are generally prohibited, unless you can provide valid documentation of your shelter. It must be a registered shelter. Puppy Mills, private pet shops and general public sales are prohibited. We are not against animals finding a good home, but we certainly want to do so ethically both on the buyer and seller's end.

What is another selling is violating the prohibited lists category?

We take that VERY seriously. Take a screenshot and send it to vendor@bluechico.com

Shipping

What if my shipping is rather large?

You will need to reflect that into your product price. We ship everything free here. If your shipping price is $15 and your sale price is $25. We recommend setting your product price at $40 with free shipping. People generally don't mind paying a little more if they know its the checkout price with no shipping added.

What if my carrier loses the item, am I liable or is Blue Chico for refunding?

Neither, the carrier is liable. Watch your tracking and use it to settle disputes.

Return Policy

Can customers return a product I sell?

That is completely up to each vendor. Blue Chico will never be responsible for vendor returns. Please state your return policy on your listing for clarity and liability. Vendors do NOT have to offer returns, but they need to state that before the sale so that the customer is aware and the vendor is protected.
